In my teens and twenties I imagined everything significant that happened to me as a scene from a movie. It remains a good thing that none of these were every made for real but that wasn't the purpose of those daydreams, they were just a way of fleshing out my response to whatever had struck me. Model Eyes was meant to play over the opening credits of a movie called Squarely Dealt about someone who stumbles his way into an advertising career, a montage of people working in retail, doing all the drudgey jobs and getting worked off their feet but in bright shiny early 80s colour.
It did cross my mind for a moment to update the lyrics to focus on social media but that moment passed very quickly. If I wrote these words now I'd be red faced but at the time they seemed to fit the world around me.
Originally recorded in the first batch of 4-track songs with Greg Wadley. Still like the music as a kind of chunky mid 60s rocker. I was probably thinking Kinks or Yarbirds.
